My Lisa Frank Nails

Talk about nostalgia. This last week was the first time I tried water marbling for nail polish.

One of the marbles I made (light rainbow) reminded me of Lisa Frank, a company of bright colors and glitter that I used to be obsessed with in about 2nd grade. I had a ridiculous sticker collection, lunch box, folders (and every other stationery item imaginable), and just bought anything I could find and convince my parents that I needed.

Anyways, onto the nails.





 
The manicure ended up (it wasn't really pre-planned, this is just the most sentimental Lisa Frank item I have left, and I made it myself!) being inspired by this card I made for my Dad's birthday. With my math I was 7 when I made this back in 1995.


I always wished I had crayons that were the right Lisa Frank colors but with the 24 pack crayons they just did not have the right colors to color your Lisa Frank coloring books right. I was highly disappointed when my pictures looked nothing like that printed on my folders.

Sorry for all the nail polish posts lately. I have been working a lot and it seems like I don't have time for much else.

Eye Shadow Nail Polish (Frankens?)

After reading about adding eyeshadow to nail polish I decided to try it myself, to use up unused eyeshadow and create new nail polish colors that I do not have. I have so many unused eye shadows that I wear once and will never wear again because they're just too dramatic. I like the idea of bright eye shadow, it just does not work right in execution.


The two clear(ish) colors I used, Pure Ice Don't You Wish and Pure Ice Oh Baby! For less than 2 dollars at Wal-mart, this polish is surprisingly nice. Actually my favorite polish is from them, Silver Mercedes (as seen on This Blog. Pokemon and Zelda eye shadow samples seen above are from Shiro Cosmetics. The purple bottled shadows on the left are Urban Decay.

I made a funnel and poured the loose pigment right in. After pouring a little of the polish out to make room. I also made sure the polishes I got had ball bearings in them so all I had to do after putting the pigment in was put the cap back on and shake.


The two colors that were made, from Fyrinnae's Sorceress and Candy Coated.


On my nails, they go on a little thick and clumpy. I should have used less eye shadow, started with a little and then slowly added more as needed, as opposed to quickly just pouring it all in (I was excited).


I ended with a burnt reddish brown with iridescent glitter and a deep blue with purple tones that shines turquoise in the sun. I am not sure on how well this will wear, I need to add a little nail polish thinner to each and haven't actually painted my nails for any long length of time with them yet.

Ah well, I like to experiment and make new things, the experience is what matters. Now I know better for next time (use less pigment!), and am thinking about making a green with iridescent glitter.

Instagram Bottles (Early August)

1. Spices at one shop at the South Bend Farmers Market. 2. Shoreline Brewery in Michigan City, IN. Best artichoke spinach dip I have ever tasted. 3. My nail polish collection in my newly bought display case. 4. Delicious Root beer and new strawberry tic-tacs.

Just realized all of my posts photos have bottles in them... I guess this is a bottled theme Instagram post. Hmm maybe I'll start theme-ing my Instagram photos, could be interesting and make me look out to take photos of things I usually wouldn't.

I am often too shy/cautious to take my DSLR many places. So I try to use Instagram to keep up the slack and store the memories I can't capture otherwise.



It still doesn't maintain the quality I would like (see the low lighted images) but it does okay with enough light. I have been using Camera360 instead of the Instagram filters. The only down side to that app is you have to take pictures with it in order to edit them in it, you cannot import them to it after taking them with the native camera app or Instagram.

Today's Zombies, Run! Run (pt. 2)

This is part two to this post.

I finished the second mission of the Zombies, Run! app today. I ran over to the creek and hardly passed any cars. I want to find more running trails through interesting places that make me feel like I am really in the zombie infested city of Abel.

I usually split each mission into 2 runs, as I am just getting back into running, and do a run/jog combo for 15 minutes at a time. Each mission is 30 minutes and then randomly shuffles your music at the end.

The first time I ran it was around 7am, I passed no cars, and it was slightly foggy out. Definitely earie feeling, it set the mood.

This app is a major motivator and I find it makes me run a lot more and for a lot longer than I would otherwise. It also tracks all of your runs online, and displays information about your runs, the trail you took, which songs you ran the fastest to, how fast you ran and for how long. Definitely my favorite app to date.

Zombies, Run! App Review (pt. 1)

A couple weeks ago I bought the $7.99 app Zombies, Run!

Another side effect of the weather being nice is that I want to run outside more to get fit.
When I heard about this zombie game that is a real life run tracker where you pick up items on your runs and have zombie hordes chasing after you (thus making you run faster) I knew it would be perfect for my boring runs.

The app intersperses an audio story and  the music you have on your phone with zombie chases and item finding.


My last run, part of the second mission. I could not do that much running that day, but I can pause the run and re-start it later.



You "equip" the items you find while running to different areas in the town to level them up. I love this aspect of the game. It is an actual immersible story with a game playing element to do after each run. Not just an audio story, if I wanted that I would listen to World War Z.

 Time to go run from some more zombies!
